Horizontal Milling

Vertical milling (bed-type milling) is a method to cut and shape materials. The method creates flat surfaces.

The vertical mill, also sometimes known as bed type miller or bed-type milling machine, has a spindle mounted above the component, which holds the rotating cutting tool. When the spindle is lowered, the tool cuts the component. The component rests on a table that can move in one direction (X) and the spindle can move in the other direction (Y).

Vertical milling is particularly common when working with large components.
