Conventional Milling

Conventional millingConventional milling (manual milling) is an old-fashioned way to create flat surfaces on pieces of metal. Even though old fashioned, it is still the most efficient method to mill small series of components.

The conventional milling machine is turning a milling cutter, the cutting tool. The workpiece is placed on a table, which is moved by the operator to control the cutting. This is a craftmanship, so the operator's skill often determines the final result.

Conventional milling is performed in most workshops, but since conventional milling is suitable for small series, it is normally done in smaller workshops, which are more likely to accept small orders. When manufacturing more complicated or a larger number of components, the milling is done in a CNC milling machine.
