Insert moulding is a method for molding plastic products containing other components.
There are two ways to produce insert moulded components. One is done by making a mold. The mold is loaded with the component, either manually or by means of a robot, and subsequently filling the mold with molten plastic. When the mold cools, the plastic component hardens and the component is removed from the mold.
In the second type, the moulding is done first. Afterwards, the plastic component is heated and joined together with the insert. There are many uses for the insert moulding, ranging from encapsuled electronics to make screw fasteners in plastic. Insert moulding is performed at certain specialized plastic workshops.
