Broaching and splining are ways of improving tolerances of drilled holes and cuts.
Broaching is used to make drilled holes finer. It also common to use it to create internal profiles, usually on shafts. The tool used for this process is called a broach and can normally be fitted to many types of machine tools.
Splining is the process to create external profiles that fit with the internal ones. This is usually done when manufacturing shafts.
