Fibreglass (glass reinforced plastic, GRP) is a material mainly used for reinforcement, encapsulants, insulators, structures and enclosures.
Fibreglass is a lightweight, malleable and rigid material with quite a lot of use of applications. It is most common in manufacturing is that fibreglass is mixed with a plastic material, and fibres of glass acts as a type of reinforcement.
In the manufacture of fiberglass products, fibres of glass are put in the shape of the final product, and then plastic is applied to the fibers. It is possible to add more layers fibreglass fabric if you want to increase the thickness and thus the strength of the final product. To get a smooth surface, it is possible to sand or blast the component.
Fibreglass work is mostly used in small series or one-offs. Much of fiberglass products used in the boating industry and motorsport.
