Vacuum forming is a manufacturing method that shapes plastic.
The manufacturing process begins by designing a mould. Then, sheet plastic material is put on top of the tool. Subsequently, the plastic is heated and simultaneously it is sucked against the mould by means of vacuum. When the tool and component have cooled, the component retains the shape of the tool. Sometimes post-processing is also required.
Vacuum forming is often used when the component to be produced is not very deep.
Vacuum forming is carried out in specialized plastic workshops.
